PROJECT 3: GENIUS LOCI - VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE (VIC)

After we started off with the massing of the visitor interpretive centre (VIC), which is developed from our personal sketches from our previous assignment, in this project we start to plan our interior spaces as well as exploring the formal and poectic architecture of our design. Basically, the VIC will serve as 2 purposes, which are providing a physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the culture, history, memory as well as the essence of the site, besides providing accommodation to house and display relevant material and interpretive material for public access and information. Moreover, the design itself if possible needs to emphasis the use of materials with heavy thermal mass such as concrete, natural stone or brickwork. In the design process, we need to consider the flow of experience in terms of transition of spaces, variation, hierachy of spaces, inside or outside relationship, manipulation of lighting, texture & materiality as well as scale & proportion.
